Tartu Folklore Club Maatasa, founded in 2013, is dedicated to celebrating and sharing South Estonian heritage in all its forms – songs, dances, instrumental music, folk tales, games, traditional clothing, and more. Their repertoire spans both old and modern dances, regisongs, and early 20th-century love songs. With nearly 40 young members, who all sing, dance, and play instruments, Maatasa fills dance clubs with lively music and energetic performances – both on stage and on the dance floor. The name Maatasa carries a double meaning: "Maatasa" as "close to the earth" reflects their deep connection to folk traditions and their commitment to presenting them as authentically as possible. "Maatasa" as "leveled to the ground" symbolizes their creative freedom to reinvent melodies and songs, adding their own unique interpretation. With Maatasa, you can dance South Estonian folk dances, favorite tunes from the Baltics and Nordics, and, of course, the dance club’s most beloved gems

We welcome all dance lovers to Dance House (Tantsumaja) once a month for a night of dancing! Each time, we learn new steps together, accompanied by live music. This season, we’re diving into folk dances from different regions of Estonia and welcoming friends from other dance clubs to join the fun. Feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks to the shared table!

The host of the Dance House is folk musician Brett Hiiob.
