The UNESCO Cities of Music network fosters creative connections. At this year’s Christmas Jazz, Lutz Krajenski’s trio, also known as krajenski.3, will perform alongside Karmen Rõivassepp, the 2023 Jazz Composer of the Year from both Denmark and Estonia. The concert will merge the diverse musical backgrounds of the versatile German producer and the Estonian singer and composer, resulting in a distinctive sound palette.

Lutz Krajenski is an organist, pianist and composer from Hannover, known for his numerous recordings and active involvement in ten different ensembles. He has toured with megastar Tom Jones, served as a musical director at the Hamburg Thalia Theatre, and conducted several big bands. To the delight of local music lovers, Krajenski has arranged hits from Estonian pop music for big band, releasing albums such as Muinaslugu sinilinnust and Estonian Evergreens: Revival in 2017 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Estonian Authors’ Society.

Estonian jazz singer and composer Karmen Rõivassepp is recognised as one of the most exceptional talents in European jazz today. The jazz magazine DownBeat has praised Rõivassepp for her superb clarity and intonation as a vocalist. She leads her own quartet, which has released two albums: Dance of Sounds (2018) and Breathe (2021). Rõivassepp’s collaborative album with the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, Ambivalence, won the title of Jazz Album of the Year at the 2023 Estonian Music Awards. This year, she was also named Jazz Musician of the Year and recently received a prestigious annual award from the Endowment of Culture.
