Award-winning contemporary British musician and composer Kit Downes will bring Niguliste Church to life with profound compositions written for the organ, blending soothing and meditative qualities with curiosity and playfulness. Downes has toured extensively as both a pianist and organist, collaborating with renowned artists such as Squarepusher, Bill Frisell, Mica Levi and Andrew Cyrille. He is a recipient of the BBC Jazz Awards and a nominee for the Mercury Prize.
As an ECM artist, Kit Downes has composed commissioned works for prestigious festivals and orchestras, including the Cheltenham Music Festival, London Contemporary Orchestra, Biel Organ Festival and Cologne Philharmonic. He has also performed solo organ concerts at renowned venues such as Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Cathedral of Lausanne, Flagey Concert Hall in Brussels, Royal Albert Hall in London, Rochester Jazz Festival (USA), and the Darmstadt and Stuttgart Organ Festivals, as well as the BBC Proms.
