Rubundi (EST) · Contriber & Philly Joe's TARTU
On the evening of Friday, 11 September, as part of the Draama Festival’s accompanying programme, the band Rubundi will perform at Contriber & Philly Joe’s Tartu Club (Kompanii 2).
Born largely from bursts of late-night inspiration, Rubundi’s music contains a fair share of playfulness, a pinch of melancholy, a touch of dreamy languor, and also the spirited agility of Gavroche. Their songs invite listeners into hidden corners of the mind—places reached by stepping away from the busy main street, lying down on damp grass, and letting the senses wander freely through the enchanting labyrinth of being human.
The ensemble is closely connected to the world of theatre. The band’s founder, singer, and guitarist Liisa Tetsmann has, as a member of the Kompanii Nii troupe, appeared in Renate Keerd’s productions Bud, Persimmon of the Burnt Fields, PURE MIND, Threshold, and Will, and currently works as a props master at Tallinn City Theatre. Bassist Martin-Eero Kõressaar performs as a musician in the summer production Seto Odyssey. Backing vocalist Vivi Maar provides rhythmic vocal accompaniment in the Estonian Drama Theatre production of Hamlet, while backing vocalist Helen Kannus is a Junior Research Fellow in Theatre Studies at the University of Tartu.
To date, the band has released four albums infused with the spirit of dusty jazz, blues, and folk: Mõttemets (2019), Müha (2021), Fantasöör (2023), and Luulutaja (2025). Rubundi has also performed at acclaimed festivals such as Jazzkaar, Augustibluus, Viru Folk, and many others.
At this concert, Rubundi will perform in the following lineup:
Liisa Tetsmann – vocals, guitars
Martin-Eero Kõressaar – double bass, bass guitar
Indrek Tetsmann – drums
Grigori Rõžuk – electric guitar
Helen Kannus and Vivi Maar – backing vocals
