Engage with the contemporary
he AFEKT Festival celebrates the 90th birthdays of living legend Arvo Pärt and Helmut Lachenmann. To mark the occasion, audiences will have a rare opportunity to hear maestro Lachenmann himself as the narrator in his work ...zwei Gefühle.... Also featured is a new orchestral and electronic work by Hanna Hartman, commissioned jointly by the Donaueschinger Musiktage and the AFEKT Festival. The soloist in Jüri Reinvere’s flute concerto is Monika Mattiesen, the festival’s artistic director. The concert will be conducted by Susanne Blumenthal, a highly acclaimed interpreter of contemporary music.
This year’s programme of the Estonian Music Days includes a new work by Liisa Hirsch, along with the Estonian premiere of Riho Esko Maimets’ concerto for piccolo and harp. The brilliant violinist Hans Christian Aavik will perform Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Violin Concerto No. 2, titled Angel’s Share. According to the composer, the title reflects the shedding of unnecessary elements as one matures. The evening concludes with Symphony No. 2 by Lepo Sumera, one of Estonia’s most significant symphonists. The concert will be conducted by Olari Elts.
