Margot Kiis. 27 years later
Wednesday, October 1, 8 p.m. at Philly Joe's Jazz Club
Singer Margot Kiis announces her second performance on the Philly Joe’s stage, but this time with her solo concert. The emphasis is on vocal improvisation – in an emotional and free-flowing way true to Margot.
Margot Kiis is an experienced jazz vocalist whose career began in Estonia in the 1990s. She graduated from the Georg Ots Tallinn Music College with a degree in singing and has collaborated with many well-known Estonian jazz musicians. She has sung with several big bands, and her main stage partner and role model has been jazz musician and multi-instrumentalist Helmut Aniko, with whom she began her journey as a jazz singer. Since 2012 Margot has lived in Norway continuing her work there as a singing teacher, conductor and also as a church musician.
Now Margot Kiis is back to perform for her home audience, bringing a mature and personal sense of jazz to the stage, shaped by years of experience, international influences and a sincere love for this particular style of music. The program will feature beloved jazz standards and less frequently performed songs by Estonian, Icelandic and Norwegian composers – a reflection of Margot’s international life and stage journey. It is a musical journey that weaves together different cultural spaces and speaks to both her home audience and those who appreciate cross-border and honest music. Margot hopes to see many old acquaintances with whom to share music and memories. This will not be just a concert – but a reunion!
