Joel Remmel Trio & Jukka Eskola album “Peegeldused” presentation concert (EE-FI)
Wednesday, September 17, 8 p.m. at Philly Joe's Jazz Club
Joel Remmel Trio and Jukka Eskola have completed a new album “Peegeldused” (“Reflections”) which showcases new creations and arrangements inspired by Estonian composers. In addition to Joel Remmel’s works, the album features interpretations from the rich repertoire of Heino Eller, Rudolf Tobias, Cyrillus Kreek, Uno Naissoo and others. There are some well-known pieces, among which are also some perhaps lesser-known tunes.
The Joel Remmel Trio, which will celebrate its 15th anniversary this coming spring, has once again joined forces with Jukka Eskola, one of the elite of Finnish jazz! They are linked by years of collaboration and the domestic audience is already familiar with the musicians’ well-integrated sound language. Between the soft and harmonious jazz, there are also sharper flashes – you can hear both sizzling mainstream jazz and thoughtful ballads.
Band leader Joel Remmel is familiar to local jazz enthusiasts. In addition to his eponymous trio, he collaborates with many beloved musicians. “Jazz Musician of the Year 2020”, “Jazz Album of the Year 2022” (“Kevad”) and numerous other awards reflect the pianist’s influence on the local music scene.
Jukka Eskola is one of Finland’s most sought-after trumpeters, whose virtuosity and diverse sound language captivate the listener from the first note. He is also a frequent guest in Estonia, collaborating with several local jazz musicians.
Heikko Remmel’s double bass playing is recognizable and confident, which is why he is appreciated in various jazz circles outside his homeland. Over the years, he has toured with numerous bands in Europe and beyond. Heikko is one of the busiest bass players in the Estonian music scene.
Ramuel Tafenau's delicate drumming and sensitive producer's ear are finding an increasingly wider audience. His diverse collaborations in the fields of jazz, pop music and theatre are reaching an ever-increasing number of grateful listeners. Youthful energy and maturity simultaneously create an exciting symbiosis, which brings great joy to fellow musicians and listeners.
You can also purchase the freshly pressed vinyl record at the concert!
