DREAM FOLK NIGHT: ALTERNE

Alterne invites the listener to an atmospheric universe where innovation and tradition come together. The music, which you could describe as dream folk, combines elements from traditional music with modern songwriting in Danish.

Alterne is lead by composer and songwriter, Ida Marie Jessen from Denmark, whose crystal- clear vocals immerse the listener to a space that explores aspects of life's many facets. The Belgian Oscar Beerten, draws inspiration from Nordic folk music and unfolds his talents on violin and Hardanger fiddle. Maimu Jõgeda from Estonia skillfully knows how to merge tradition and renewal with charismatic accordion playing.

This cross-pollination had its roots in Finland, where the three musicians met as students at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. Finland thus provided an ideal creative frame for entering into musical dialogue, where they explored and build on each other’s musical intentions and ideas. 

Their debut album ‘Alterne’, released on April 19, 2024 under the Danish label Go Danish Folk Music, stands as a testament to their dedication and musical immersion.
