Mathias Sandberg Trio
Saturday, May 17 at 7:30 PM, in Tartu Kompanii 2, II floor
He has been called "one of Finland's best-kept secrets", the highly acclaimed guitarist and composer. Mathias Sandberg is one of the hardest-working jazz musicians in the country. He has studied at the Manhattan School of Music in New York and Berklee College of Music in Boston and worked with artists such as Georg Riedel, Brian Charette, Nick Mancini, Peter Asplund, Jukka Eskola, Teppo Mäkynen and Manuel Dunkel. Sandberg plays a hundred or so concerts a year and has toured both Europe and the United States.
Mathias Sandberg's debut solo album The Doctor (2020) and the highly anticipated follow-up The Captain (2023), have received both huge critical review and airplay on jazz radio stations in Europe, the United States, South America, Asia, and Australia. The albums showcase his unique blend of hard swingin', groovy, and soulful jazz with strong melodic writing, rhythmically playful improvisation, and a delightful, almost telepathic interplay between the three.
Mathias Sandberg's Trio continues to bring jazz to the people, and has in the last two years played over 100 concerts from Enontekiö in the North to Helsinki in the South.
