Roots Session IV | Blues Bizarre (FI) & Andres Roots (EE) • Roots Session
Blues Bizarre is one of the most exciting new names in contemporary blues and roots music from the North. The band mixes traditional blues with multiple other influences from oriental to psychedelic music. Having released their self-titled debut album in September 2024, Blues Bizarre has drawn the attention of many Finnish festivals, including an invitation to 2025 Puistoblues and starting of the 2025 Roots Session edition in Estonia on the 25th of January, together with Andres Roots.
Andres Roots is a slide guitarist from Tartu, Estonia and an ambassador for that recent European Capital of Culture, whose music has received airplay on five continents
The former Bullfrog Brown guitarist and songwriter has performed in the USA and throughout most of Europe, with the 2018 book “100 Years of Estonian Music” introducing him as the country's “internationally best-known player of pure blues”. Roots’ latest release “Vol. 12” has nevertheless invoked comparisons with not just the heyday of Mississippi Delta Blues but also with Davy Graham, Leo Kottke, Ry Cooder – and even acoustic Led Zeppelin.
“Musicians of this sort run counter to all expectations, and upset various purists,” writes the American jazz critic Ted Gioia. “It's almost as if muddy waters were flowing into the Gulf of Riga.”
Roots Session is a fresh concert series showcasing roots rock, blues, soul, gospel and country music from abroad and Estonia.
Roots Session is organised in collaboration with Blues Estonia and Muusikalinn Tallinn.
