Anna Lea Haamer & Alex Verlin Duo „Minu aasta Portugalis”

The concert program “My Year in Portugal” is inspired by singer-composer Anna Lea Haamer’s Erasmus exchange year in Portugal. Portuguese, Brazilian and Estonian music, personal stories and life experiences are intertwined, along with the joys, losses and discoveries that living abroad brings. This is not just a concert to introduce another culture but a sharing of a genuine, sincere experience – what life is like as an Estonian musician far from home. The program will feature Anna Lea Haamer’s fresh creations that were inspired by the people, nature and rhythm of Portugal. In addition, you can also hear the songs of fellow musicians she met in Portugal and Brazil. 

Anna Lea Haamer and Alex Verlin form a fresh and sincere musical duo, whose roots go back to the Heino Eller Tartu Music School and later to the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Over the years, they have become good friends and stage partners, bound by a passion for diverse music – jazz, funk, pop, soul, bossa nova and their fusions are all a natural part of their repertoire. They have previously performed together in both the Anna Lea Haamer Quintet and Trio, but now they also share their music as a duo.

Anna Lea Haamer is a young jazz singer, songwriter and teacher, whose wide-ranging vocals and stylistic freedom can be clearly heard in her work. She writes music inspired by various genres – her songs meet jazz, soul, R&B, funk, fusion, folk, indie and pop. Her lyrics are often philosophical and contemplative – some through the prism of humor, others painfully honest.

Alex Verlin is a guitar virtuoso with many faces – musically and also literally, as her twin brother Felix is ​​a well-known bass guitarist. Alex's musical path has been diverse and colorful: he has played in bands such as the funk-rock group Tuli, folk ensemble Pärlin, party band Pretty Fly, jazz-funk ensemble Mikk Kaasik, and in projects Tšellopoisid, Fylgja, Välk and Anna Lea Haamer Trio. Alex's playing style is characterized by both technical precision and emotional depth.
