MeetUp in the Baltics
MEETUP IN THE BALTICS
Wednesday, June 17, 9 p.m. at Philly Joe's Jazz Club
To mark the end of the school year, students from the music academies of Latvia and Estonia want to invite you to celebrate with them! Their joint concert will highlight the music played by the ensembles during this past season.
Ensemble Slowtoes from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre consists of musicians from both Estonia and Latvia and has played together for two years. Their repertoire includes traditional jazz and mixes in elements from other genres. The musicians also strive to add their own ideas to the compositions spontaneously during rehearsals, which brings a hint of Baltic flavour to the pieces.
The first year ensemble from the Latvian Academy of Music together with an exchange student from USA, will show their highlights from different projects, including pieces from tributes of The Beatles, Chet Baker and Duke Ellington as well as music from the newly published Latvian Realbook.
This concert is a step towards opening up the doors to stronger musical bonds between the Baltic state jazz musicians in the future. Come listen to the young pioneers of jazz!
