TOHI Gin Presents: Aleksander Paal. Recalibration, Vol. 1
Thursday, March 26, 8 p.m. at Philly Joe's Jazz Club
Recalibration is an ongoing series dedicated to the development of new material and the refinement of musical language within the post-bop tradition. It provides a focused framework for compositional work, allowing ideas to mature through repeated performance.
Vol. 1 brings together two tenor saxophones in an intense musical dialogue rooted in the post-bop tradition. The music moves through sharp, angular melodies, rich chromatic language, and unexpected harmonic turns, creating a sound that is both intellectually engaging and emotionally direct.
The title “The Double Bind” evokes conditions in which opposing demands cannot be reconciled without loss — where any step forward alters the situation itself. In this setting, two tenor saxophone voices move through that instability together, allowing contradiction to shape the form and direction of the music.
Lineup:
Aleksander Paal – tenor saxophone
Raul Sööt – tenor saxophone
Jaan Jaanson – guitar
Heikko Remmel – double bass
Ivars Arutjunjans – drums
The ticket does not guarantee a seat, we recommend arriving early or making a table reservation for 10 € per table: info@phillyjoes.com
