Rahel Talts Quartet ft. Marek Talts (EE-LT-PL-DK)
Sunday, March 22, 8 p.m. at Philly Joe's Jazz Club
Rahel Talts Quartet is a collective that performs original music by Estonian jazz pianist and composer Rahel Talts. Each member of the ensemble is from a different country, but the band had its start when they all first met years ago in Denmark. Now the band has been active for about five years and has played concerts in both Europe and Asia.
The music of Rahel Talts Quartet could best be described as energetic, acoustic and melodic jazz, with influences from Baltic and Nordic folk melodies, traditional jazz and even a bit of pop or gospel music. Rahel likes to use simple, catchy, folk-inspired melodies, juicy harmonies and active grooves in her music. Talts often makes more modern arrangements of Estonian folk songs and old, legendary jazz standards, which she also performs at concerts.
Rahel has released 4 albums, the most recent being "Back and Forth" (November 2025), which also features special guest, award-winning guitarist Rob Luft from England. The album is already making waves among European jazz listeners and critics. Rahel's quartet has toured Germany, France, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia and performed at prestigious festivals such as Jazz Baltica, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Jazz à la Petite France, Nordischer Klang, Jazzkaar, etc.
This evening, the band will be joined by beloved guitarist Marek Talts, who will give the group a new sound and freshness and add exciting, beautiful colors. You can hear songs from Rahel Talts Quartet's latest album "Back and Forth" as well as older hits and new material.
