RESIDENT: Lota-Loviisa Rohtla x Allan Kaljaste. Tribute to Stan Getz • Philly Joe's Summer Residency
RESIDENT: LOTA-LOVIISA ROHTLA x ALLAN KALJASTE. TRIBUTE TO STAN GETZ
Thursday, 17 July 9 p.m. at Philly Joe's Jazz Club
The Philly Joe’s Summer Residency programme provides a platform for talented young Estonian artists on the jazz scene! New ensembles, colourful programs and the opportunity to hear jazz and music with its influences from a new perspective on every concert evening - all this is offered by selected artists, week after week throughout the summer.
In July bassist Lota-Loviisa Rohtla and saxophonist Allan Kaljaste will be sharing a residency and introducing new themes and collaborators each week. Their concerts will take place on Thursdays (03.07, 10.07, 17.07, 24.07 and 31.07).
“Tribute to Stan Getz”
Stan Getz was one of the most elegant and melodic tenor saxophonists in jazz. His collaborations with Antonio Carlos Jobim and João Gilberto helped bring bossa nova to international prominence. The concert will feature a selection of the legend's beloved songs to celebrate his approaching 100th birthday.
Lota-Loviisa Rohtla is a bassist who began her bass studies in 2019 and has been studying in the Jazz department of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre since 2022. In 2023/2024, Lota-Loviisa studied in the Jazz department of the Sibelius Academy under Antti Lötjönen as part of an Erasmus program. Her greatest role models are Ray Brown, Christian Mcbride, Pino Palladino and Nick Campbell.
Allan Kaljaste is a young jazz saxophonist whose musical career began with recorder studies at the Rakvere Music School. This was followed by studies in classical saxophone and rhythm saxophone at theGeorg Ots Tallinn Music College. In 2020, he led the pop-jazz band Allan Kaljaste Smooth Group, and now his main focus is on post-bob jazz music. Kaljaste is known for his melodic style and excellent altissimo register. His biggest inspiration is Kenny Garrett.
