RESIDENT: KALEV KARLSON TRIO. JAZZ STANDARDS
Thursday, 26 June 9 p.m. at Philly Joe's Jazz Club
The Philly Joe’s Summer Residency programme provides a platform for talented young Estonian artists on the jazz scene! New ensembles, colourful programs and the opportunity to hear jazz and music with its influences from a new perspective on every concert evening - all this is offered by selected artists, week after week throughout the summer.
June’s resident is Nikita Korzoun, whose concerts will take place on Thursdays.
“Originals & Jazz Classics”
Nikita Korzoun Trio combines new and fresh-sounding arrangements of jazz standards with Nikita's ever-expanding catalog of original compositions. The music of the group is focused on straight-ahead jazz and leaves plenty of room for improvisation. Each member can shine, and the listener is also included in the exciting musical conversation with the chance to be a part of the synergy created on stage.
Tallinn-born musician and composer Nikita Korzoun wants to bring back traditional jazz with his playing, adding modern knowledge, skills and colors. Among other artists, he is most inspired by Cannonball Adderley, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Kenny Garrett, Michael Brecker and McCoy Tyner. Nikita has performed at several festivals (Jazz Time, Jazzkaar), won prestigious awards (Round Table, Uno Naissoo competition) and has also been nominated at the Estonian Jazz Awards in the Young Jazz Talent category (2023, 2025). Nikita has studied and played with Dave Liebman, Jukkis Uotila, Aaron Goldberg, Anders Jormin, Tim Hagans and many other legendary artists. He also graduated with honors from the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School in jazz saxophone and studied at the Sibelius Academy. Nikita is currently studying jazz saxophone at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under Aleksander Paal. The young artist's work can be heard on his debut album "Count To Three". In addition to his own projects, Nikita can also be heard in funk, fusion, R&B and pop groups such as Arg Part, Reti Niimann Band, etc.
"Nikita Korzoun is one of the most exciting musicians of the younger generation in our jazz scene, who upholds the jazz tradition. Jazz is his calling and it is with great interest to follow how his musical life continues." - Ivo Heinloo (jazz critic, Klassikaraadio)
